Born in Blagoveschensk, Russia, Konstantin Bessmertny graduated from Fine Art Institute in Vladivostok before relocation to Macau in 1993. Bessmertny chooses to place characters of his oil paintings in an absurd or topsy-turvy world alike that of Russia’s classic novelist Mikhail Bulgakov.

Many of his works pay homage to masters such as Hieronymous Bosch, Diego Velasquez and Peter Bruegel. Although Bessmertny admits to a comic element in his paintings, his aim is not to make people laugh. Rather, he uses humour to bring out the poignancy of life. |
